Two entrepreneurship students of Mrs. Marlow’s are wowing judges and winning awards & cash prizes with their fantastic business ideas. Arian Lance and Quanteshia Smith both placed in the YESCarolina Student Business Plan Competition; Arian went on to semifinals and is about to compete at state level.

Arian Lance, sophomore, placed 1st in the classroom competition, winning $350. Arian advanced to the semifinal round of the regional competition at the College of Charleston with SweetCakes, her business plan for a cupcake business.

Even though Arian did not place at the regional competition, she impressed the judges so much that she was invited back by YESCarolina to compete in the 6th Annual Mark Motley Foundation State Business Plan Competition, to be held June 17th. At the Motley Foundation Competition, Arian will compete with students across the state for a 1st place prize of $3,000, 2nd place prize of $2,000 or 3rd place prize of $1,000.

Quanteshia Smith, junior, also competed in the YEScarolina Competition. Quanteshia placed 2nd in the classroom competition round with her business plan Smooth-E-Qs. Her plan for a mobile, all fresh produce smoothie cart earned her $150, and another $100 for showing at the regional competition at the College of Charleston.

“I learned a lot, and it was fun, too,” said Quanteshia. “I definitely want to become an entrepreneur one day.
