First year Culinary Arts students recently rubbed elbows with celebrity chefs at the 20th Annual Charleston Economic Empowerment Summit on March 10th. De’Sean Middleton, Keyshon Green and Brandon Simmons, sophomores, assisted restauranteur Chef Alexander Smalls and Hell’s Kitchen season 13 winner Chef La Tasha McCutchen prepare their savory signature dishes.

With Chef Smalls, students helped with the preparation of his cinnamon chicken, Suya Kebab, collard green salad. Chef Smalls even helped them create a special Bulldog perlo rice with fried crab meat and okra.

At Chef La Tasha’s station, students learned how to prepare confit duck w/sweet corn macaroni and cheese.

“This was a great experience and it was truly something I have never done before. With all the people and famous chefs at this event, I’d definitely say that this was a stately affair,” remarked student Brandon Simmons.
