ConNECKted Too Summer Apprenticeships

ConNECKted TooConNECKtedTOO Apprenticeships are available for youths and young adults between the ages of 16 and 24 with the arts and activist collective ConNECKted.

The 2018 BELONGING & BECOMING Apprenticeship will highlight Tiny Business & Entrepreneurship.

To be eligible, students must be between 16 and 24 years old and available for 4 to 10 hours a week. A specific schedule will be made with a designated mentor in one of several sites. With an intergenerational and inter-racial team, the apprentice/intern will be expected to assist and share knowledge, ideas and skills in some of the following areas:

  • Researching and conducting Interviews
  • Researching History of Tiny Businesses as well as their presence and impact today
  • Studio work using multimedia techniques
  • Documentation work: data filing, recording
  • Administrative work and planning
  • Performances and conducting Tours.

ConNECKted’s exhibit last summer at City Gallery downtown engaged issues of displacement, gentrification, and marginalization in the Charleston area. Recent Burke grad, Tyeshia Williams, worked as an apprentice last summer.

Interested applicants may apply online at Bit.ly/BelongingandBecoming and must include a one page essay about the Impact of Tiny Businesses on your Community. Applicants are also asked to list and explain areas of Interest and Expertise and availability.
