Senior Spotlight: Oren Brown

Aaleila Clark, Staff Writer

A well-known face and voice around Burke is Oren Brown, who rallies the student body in the morning announcements every day. After graduation, Oren plans to to attend Clemson University (go Tigers!), where he plans to major in either computer science or mechanical engineering. He’s proud to announce that he’s received approximately $23,000 in scholarships from Clemson. Way to go, Oren!

While at Burke, Oren has been actively involved in JROTC, First Robotics and the Student Government Association. He’s also been on the tennis and Trebuchet teams.

Oren says that Mr. Roy Joe Kemp was the teacher who had the most influence on him while at Burke. He admires Mr. Kemp’s career experience as well as the wide array of knowledge he brought to the robotics and trebuchet teams. “Kemp has allowed me to explore more about engineering than I would have without his guidance.” It’s because of Mr. Kemp that Oren wants to pursue an education in engineering.

Advice that Oren would give underclassmen is “Do not allow anyone to alter your academic advancement.”
